NATIONAL: Australian Fashion Week (AFW) founder Simon Lock has been announced as the recipient of an award which has been bestowed on the likes of Akira Isogawa, Carla Zampatti and Easton Pearson.
Minister for Arts Virginia Judge today annonced him as the recipient of the 2010 Australian Fashion Laureate.
The award, an initiative of AFW organiser IMG Fashion and the New South Wales Government, recognises "oustanding" creative or intellectual achievement in the Australian fashion industry.
Lock was unable to collect the Laureate in person today and will be presented with his statuette in the new year. He said he was honoured by the title, which is voted by a panel of leading industry representatives in Australia.
"It is an industry that I love and will continue to be of sevice to in the future," he said in a statement.
AFW celebrated 15 years in business this year and is currently operated by IMG Fashion Asia Pacific. In February, it was announced that Lock would not renew his contract with the firm as managing director.
