SYDNEY: Simon Lock will begin a new chapter today as a mentor to an emerging fashion designer.

As part of the new Fashion Future initiative, the founder of Australian Fashion Week will spend time with new designer Valerie Jaquet discussing the industry and providing advice on her collections.

Lock recently announced he will not renew his contract as managing director of IMG Fashion Asia Pacific when when it ends later this year.

Fashion Future is a venture set up by former recruitment manager Pamela Trantelles. It will see a number of leading fashion designers take on the mentorship of emerging designers for a period of up to a year.

Trantelles said designers Alex Perry, Henry Roth and Wayne Cooper will also participate in the program, among others.

Young designers can apply for mentorship providing a CV and folio. Trantelles said successful applicants will be matched with appropriate designers.
