SYDNEY: Mrs. Press will be among the labels and businesses to host satellite events at the Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival (RSFF) later this month, to fuel consumer spend in fashion.

The brand’s designer, Clare Press, will present her spring summer 2010/11 collection at an outdoor gazebo picnic party in Elizabeth Bay on August 25.

Other events away from the main catwalk include a series of talks themed the ‘Fashion After Hours In Conversation Series’,  which will explore the relevance of couture and the current state of Australian fashion writing.

An exhibition themed ‘Crazy Beautiful, Backstage at Australian Fashion Week’ will run from August 23 to September 12 at the Queen Victoria Building, with photographic work showing what goes on behind the scenes at the industry event.

Fashion commentator Melissa Hoyer will host the V Australia Style Sessions on August 24, advising consumers on how to ‘Dress for Your Destination’. Also during the week, the Hoyts ‘Fashion in Film Festival’ at Moore Park will run major fashion films such as The September Issue and The Devil Wears Prada.

Other satellite events include the Paddington Alive Festival, in which retailers will host a mix of shopping and cultural events, while designer pop up stores will appear in the Queen Victoria Building and The Strand in central Sydney.

RSFF will take place from August 23 to 28, with a number of Australian designers and major retailers hosting catwalk shows at the Sydney Town Hall. Most events are ticketed with some free. For more information on RSFF pick up a copy of Ragtrader’s August 13 issue.
