MELBOURNE: The future of retrenched workers at Pacific Brands continues to hang in the balance.

Chief executive Sue Morphet said some of the 1850 effected staff could saved if a buyer for its local manufacturing facilities was found. The wholesale group met with Federal Industry Minister Kim Carr and the Textile Clothing and Footwear Union yesterday to discuss entitlement benefits for workers.

"In discussions today, we have confirmed that we remain open to any approach from any party interested in buying and maintaining any part of our business as a way of keeping jobs," Morphet said in a statement.

No offers had been received to buy the company's New South Wales, Victorian or Queensland factories at the time of press.
