SYDNEY: Workers at KingGee's Bellambi plant have signed up for TAFE courses paid for by the company's owner Pacific Brands after learning their workplace is being sold.

KingGee union delegate Menka Vasilevska told Fairfax newspapers the 79 workers had been well looked after by Pac Brands with average payouts for workers who had been with the company for 20 years equating to around $55,000.

She said there had been no issues with staff gaining their full entitlements.

Pac Brands announced in February that it intended laying of 1850 employees and move the remainder of its production offshore.

Colliers International listed the Bellambi site for sale earlier this month with six potential buyers expressing an interest in the 10,700 square metre site. Expressions of interest close June 4.

A second Illawarra factory is due to close February next year.
