MELBOURNE: Next week will see local avant-garde label Materialbyproduct take on the Spanish market following an invitation from one of the country's leading fashion showcases.
The label - created by designers Susan Dimasi and Chantal Kirby – is to participate in the autumn/winter 2010 edition of Barcelona Fashion Week from March 16 to 19, with its latest range, dubbed 'Same Air, Different Time'.
Positioned as an international showcase for avant-garde fashion, Barcelona Fashion Week is comprised of four days of catwalk shows, as well as showroom and parallel activities for invited international press and buyers.
The selection committee - comprised of eleven experts and including judges from the UK, France, Japan, Belgium and Spain – chose to invite Materialbyproduct to the event based on its creative direction, originality, technique and processes.
Barcelona Fashion Week will also see a first time collaboration between Materialbyproduct and Paris-based Japanese composer Lico.
Lico, who has composed catwalk music for Yohji Yamamoto and Anne Valerie Hash in the past, approached Materialbyproduct in 2007 with a view to working with them.
