SYDNEY: Oroton Group has reported that its online store sales grew over 50 per cent in the 2009/10 financial year, becoming one of its top five performing outlets.

The Oroton website was boosted in the period with video footage of products and the addition of brand history in the Chinese language. It also included an area called ‘the studio’ to sell vintage and one-off samples.

In its annual report to shareholders, chief executive officer Sally MacDonald and executive chairman Ross Lane said that the company will continue to invest in digital formats in the coming year.

The company opened its first Oroton store in Hong Kong in September this year and it expects to open two further stores in Singapore within a few months.

“We are confident that our business model and product range will do well in these new markets, and have ensured the businesses are capitalised in a way to ensure attractive shareholder returns can be maintained as we grow,” the pair reported.

Oroton Group runs 76 stores nationally for Oroton and also holds the Australian and New Zealand license to operate Polo Ralph Lauren stores.

It recorded an 18 per cent jump in net profit for the financial year to July 31, despite slower sales for its Polo Ralph Lauren division. The figure of $23 million compared to $19.4 million the previous year. Revenue was reported as $146.4 million, up eight per cent from $135.6 million in the prior corresponding period.
