SYDNEY: Wool research and promotion organisation Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) has unveiled a new range of performance fabrics designed for next-to-skin wear.
The trademarked Merino Perform range was designed to capture the natural qualities of Australian Merino – including breathability and elasticity; odour resistance; sweat and moisture control and suitability for multi-climatic environments, an AWI spokesperson confirmed, adding Merino Perform provided a high level of comfort for everyday, active and sportswear in all climates, year round.
AWI's Merino Perform program was a global partnership with leading circular knitters, and its supply chain currently included companies in Australia, China, Europe, Japan, Korea and Vietnam with plans to expand the network as demand increased. The advantage of a global supply chain was that it offered Merino Perform fabrics suitable for a diverse range of active and sports activities, the spokesperson added.
AWI has already begun showcasing Merino Perform at a series of international trade events, including Outdoor Retailer in Salt Lake City, Utah, US, from January 22 to 25; the PGA 2009 Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida, US, from January 29 to 31; and ISPO Winter in Munich, Germany, from February 1 to 4.
