MELBOURNE: A new creative director for the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF) has been announced.

Grant Pearce, editorial director for GQ magazine at Conde Nast Asia Pacific, will take the reigns from Karen Webster on July 15. Webster was appointed festival director in June, 2005.

Festival chairman Laura Anderson said the board wanted a director who could embrace the festival's heritage but lead it to the next stage of development.

"Grant brings a wealth of creative and strategic experience that will further cement LMFF’s position as the preeminent consumer fashion event in the world,” she said.

Pearce said he was honoured to take on the role.

"I look forward to working with the team to further enhance the Festival’s contribution to the fashion and creative industries, the economy and our key stakeholders," he said.

Pearce is currently responsible for the editorial direction of GQ China and GQ Japan. He has previously served as publisher of the fashion division at FPC Magazines, overseeing titles including Vogue Australia, Vogue Girl and GQ Australia.
