National fashion council on the horizon

A new national body is currently being formed to help promote and support Australian fashion designers both at home and overseas.
The National Council of Fashion Design (NCFD), which will run as a division of the Council of Textile and Fashion Industries (TFIA), will provide designers across Australia with legal advice and business development workshops and seminars on a range of toThe council is also working towards establishing a digital archive service for designers? collection.
?Our aim is to help the Australian industry become more internationally competitive,? said NCFD general manager Zoe Edquist, who was a lawyer at Minter Ellison until June last year when she left the firm to work in the fashion industry.
?At the moment there isn?t a single national body that deals with the industry as a national industry. We need to get all organizations in the fashion industry working together if the industry is to survive.?
Initial funding for the council will be provided by TFIA with further funds to come through a membership program which will be set up in April or May this year.
