MELBOURNE: Myer has announced it will boost its store presence in Western Australia despite recording "flat" sales in the third quarter of 2009/10.

Myer CEO Bernie Brookes announced the company has signed a new store in the Lakeside Joondalup centre in the northern suburbs of Perth.

The new site will bring Myer's West Australian store tally to seven.

The announcement came as the company released its sales results for the quarter ending April 24, 2010. Total sales for the period were $671 million, flat compared to the third quarter of 2008/09.

However Brookes said he was satisfied with the figures.

“This is a pleasing result in the context of a very challenging trading environment where we cycled the Federal Government's second, larger stimulus payments and saw the impact of further interest rate rises on consumer discretionary spending,” Brookes said.

Myer reported furniture, childrenswear and menswear “performed strongly” during the third quarter, while womenswear also continued to perform consistently across the country.

The department store's total sales for the nine months to April 24 grew by 1.4 per cent to $2468 million. The company reaffirmed its full year guidance for sales growth of between one to two per cent.
