Mum's the word for growing maternity label
SYDNEY: Australian maternity and childrenswear retailer Mother Baby Child (MBC) has cracked the European market and has now set its sights on the US.
After exhibiting its signature MBC Maternity label at the Mode Enfantine Fair in Belgium and Premier Kids in England, the Sydney-based retailer was snapped up by clients in Dubai, Kuwait, Japan, England and Paris.
MBC Maternity founder Gill Dibble said the label had been looking to grow internationally for the past year.
"I just knew that I wanted to take MBC outside of Australia. I'm from the UK and I go over to Europe three times a year anyway, so I knew there was a strong niche in that market."
Offering a range of evening wear, yoga wear, casual basics and work wear for expectant mothers, the label is aimed at higher-end stores with singlets priced at $30 and suit jackets at $122.
Showcasing the entire collection at both trade shows, Dibble said the strongest selling items were silk tunics, wrap dresses and maternity jeans.
"We use as many natural fibres as possible; lots of cottons, linen and silks so it means we can get a really good product out there."
While the burgeoning company "I also want to open a few more stores," Gibble added. "We've got two now in Woollahra and Mosman but I want to get more out there and more international stockists too."
MBC currently wholesales within Australia with stockists in Melbourne, Brisbane, the Southern Highlands and Canberra.
