Individualists will soon have access to a bigger choice of quirky footwear following the release of UK brand Irregular Choice via distributor Sapato Imports.

Sapato national brand manager Adam Westheimer confirmed the company would begin distributing the label in Australasia in late June.

Created by UK designer Danny Sullivan - "his mission to change the way we see and wear shoes" - Irregular Choice was the parent company and brand of Poetic licence, distributed by Sapato since 2007.
With a strong international following, Irregular Choice's point of difference was its reputation for "maintaining creativity in a world of conformity," he said.

"Irregular Choice is more than just the name of a brand. It's a state of mind, a way of being - a supply of something fresh and fun that maintains imagination and originality above all else." The brand would retail for around $200 a pair through around six boutique stores in every state as well as selected independent chains.

The initial spring summer range would be "tight and condensed", he said, with a larger range to release for southern hemisphere autumn winter.

Founded in 1999 to supply the boutique and small chains sector with unique footwear, Sapato Imports' brand stable included Brazilian and overseas labels including Moda, Romanelli, Veronella, Cruz and Sky. Irregular Choice was a welcome addition to the company's offer, Westheimer said.

"Because Sapato Imports has carried the Poetic Licence Brand for so many years, the introduction of the parent [label] Irregular Choice was inevitable. The product mix that Sapato Imports can now offer its customers has grown significantly. Sapato Imports is now offering retail stores something for every consumer. Irregular choice is the icing on the cake, offering fast fashion and above all, fun."

Following the opening of Irregular Choice concept stores in New York and London in 2007 and 2008, the global downturn had shown no sign of dampening.
