AUCKLAND: Directional Kiwi label Stitch Ministry has announced plans to broaden its offer with a foundation collection for winter 2009.

General manager Anna Birse described the new Stitch Vitals line as "a range of high quality foundation pieces designed to fill out a stylish and functional wardrobe".

"The garments are perfect layering pieces for cooler winter months when finding one piece to match the elements can be an exercise in frustration."

Launching in concert with Stitch Ministry's Lighter Side of Dark winter 2009 collection, the Stitch Vitals range would incorporate two stories - Wool Blend Vitals and Slinky Vitals - the latter designed as an easy care option in a blend of viscose and spandex.

Designer Kylee Davis said the Stitch Vitals collection was designed to offer consumers a "basics with a twist" option.

"With the current economic climate, now is a better time than any to create well made garments with a desirable price point," she added.

Starting at $NZ45 ($A35), the new sub-brand is available through selected retailers and at online store stitchministry.com from this month.

Garments in the Stitch Vitals collection were designed to be simple and functional, with marked points of difference including twisted cuffs, double hems and ruched necklines, intended to complement the Stitch Ministry brand's signature style. Meanwhile Stitch Vitals were presented in unique packaging reflecting the Stitch Ministry aesthetic.

"Each garment is presented in a large envelope adorned with signature Stitch Ministry stripes, adding to the overall experience of the Stitch Vitals range."

Launched in 2006 and by Jason Gitmans (Gitmans Knitwear) and Kylee Davis (ex-Insidious Fix) Stitch Ministry has released four collections and secured around 70 wholesale accounts throughout Australasia.

The brand is represented in Australia by Roberta Sartor of Sydney agency England & Co (representing NSW and Queensland) and Marris Fotheringham of Melbourne agency Shiraz Fashion Marketing (representing all other states/territories).
