NATIONAL: A new customer rewards programme is set to roll out into 42 shopping centres nationally, following a successful small trial.

Called Freebies Rewards, the programme is run by the Centro Properties Group within its portfolio of retail centres.

The system was first implemented in October 2009 at the Centro Brandon Park centre in Victoria and the Centro Bankstown Shopping Centre in New South Wales.

National, franchised and independent retailers within the centres were offered the chance to be part of the initial trial. Kmart in Centro Bankstown reported a 25 per cent rise in sales performance and a 20 per cent increase in customer traffic as a result.

Customers are able to collect "freebie" vouchers at custom built machines within a centre. These include personalised incentives and prizes based on their shopping frequency and expenditure. Offers include discounts and rewards across fashion, food, homewares and other categories.

Centro Properties Group has a portfolio of shopping centres across Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
