MELBOURNE: Australian fashion retailers have been summoned to discuss a weighty issue before the Victorian government next week.
The L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF) will bring together key players in the industry for a body image forum on May 31. The 'Fashion that Fits' forum is supported by the Victorian Government and will be opened by the Minister for Sport, Recreation and Youth Affairs James Merlino.
Industry experts in retail, media and the broader fashion community will discuss the challenge of creating a unified approach to promote positive body image in Australia. In an earlier interview with Ragtrader magazine, outgoing LMFF festival director Karen Webster said the industry needed to acknowledge designer "freedoms" in selecting runway models but work towards healthier bids for consumers.
Sportsgirl strategic brand manager Prue Thomas will join Webster on the 'Fashion that Fits' panel. Other representatives include Cleo magazine editor Sarah Oakes, Chadwick model management executive Matthew Anderson and Eating Disorders Foundation Victoria representative Naomi Crafti.
The forum will take place at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image in Melbourne.
