NATIONAL: Launch Initiative, a Sydney based business which selects, manufactures and sells designs by emerging fashion designers, is soon to launch its summer 2009/10 collection.
Five pieces from two designers, UTS student Laura Poole and Chanho Jang, originally from South Korea, were chosen by a Launch Initiative judging panel and an online vote by members. The pieces sold will appear in boutique stores in November.
The designers competed against 50 other entrants for the opportunity. Around 1500 people logged onto the Launch Initiative website to vote.
Launch Initiative started a year ago and every six weeks the company put a design brief online and welcome designers to submit entries.
If selected for production, Launch Initiative takes care of the cost of manufacturing, marketing and sales, but provides the designer with royalties. The designer's name appears on the garments and a swing tag features a brief biography.
Entries for the next collection, a men's range, are now open.
