Leisurewear brand Lacoste is set to break new ground.
Following the success of its footwear range, the French label has decided to release its entire spring/summer 2006/07 apparel collection to both the New Zealand and Australian markets for the first time.
Distributed by Sydney-based firm True Alliance - which also manages Reebok and Ben Sherman - the release will coincide with an official launch on July 25.
Lacoste general manager David Smith said the move would prove beneficial to local consumers.
"Lacoste is one of the world's most recognisable brands. The brand has always stayed true to its origins, presenting a successful fusion of elegant sportswear and fashion pieces that we know are perfect for the Australian consumer."
The full release will include the 2006 Heritage Tennis collection which features a range of men's and women's sportswear. Available through David Jones, Myer and selected boutiques, representatives say the line is aimed at 16 to 36-year-olds looking for "chic sprtwear with a fashion edge".
Made from cotton, the men's line will consist of a short-sleeve polo, a v-neck sweater and white tennis shorts with red contrast Manufactured in France and Asia, the polo shirts are priced at $115 while trousers start from $149.
It is understood the release is part of broader plans to expand into the Australian market with boutiques in "A-plus locations" across Sydney and Melbourne in production plus corners in David Jones and Myer.
