GOLD COAST: Life for the 100-plus staff at Queensland sports apparel manufacturing firm KooGa is about to get much busier with the news the company is close to winning the tender to supply apparel to the Qantas Wallabies.

News Limited newspapers has reported the Australian Rugby Union has already decided to go with KooGa despite the Gold Coast company admitting it has only "entered the tender process" to become the official jersey and apparel supplier.

An announcement will not be made until August when the union's deal with New Zealand-based global brand Canterbury expires.

According to the report KooGa expects to double its turnover, estimated at $20 million, in the next 12 months after securing a number of deals with Australian sports groups.

These include supplying jerseys to Super 14 sides Queensland Reds and the ACT Brumbies and the New Zealand Rugby League Team.

KooGa director Tyron Brant told the Courier Mail he would not comment on the Wallabies deal but said the company had sought a meeting with Queensland Premier Anna Bligh to see whether it was eligible for financial assistance to help the company grow.
