The collaboration marks J Brand's first tie-up with an Australian company, following previous partnerships with international labels such as Proenza Schouler, Christopher Kane and Richard Nicoll.
The US label will produce two styles exclusively for Pink Zebra, including a “Wink” grey skinny leg pant and “Martini” black flares, with product to be stitched with a “J Brand for Pink Zebra” tag. The pieces, set to retail for $229, will be delivered to Pink Zebra outlets in Sydney and Melbourne from July, and will also be available for purchase via the retailer's online shop. Pink Zebra, which also stocks other US labels, including Vince, Michael Stars, Rich & Skinny, Resin denim, James Jeans, Kate Spade, Christopher Fischer cashmere, and Elizabeth & James, has maintained a strong partnership with J Brand over the years and owner Sarah Paykel said it's possible the two might team up again.
“This special collection is a one-off to celebrate our fifth birthday, but we may look to create more styles that are exclusive to Pink Zebra in Australia with J Brand in future,” she said. Pink Zebra will promote the capsule collection launch via Facebook and via its 15,000-strong member base along with in-store advertising, which will include specially produced ticketing and signage.
Paykel said Pink Zebra, which currently has five stores in addition to its online boutique, is also looking to expand its retail network in time. “We may well expand our network in future, especially in Melbourne, but for the moment we are focussing on bedding our new stores into our business,” she said.
