International expansion on Esprit cards
Burgeoning apparel company Esprit has set aside HK$900 million (AUS$153 million) for new store openings and renovations across the globe.
Approximately 10 new stores will open in Australia this financial year, seven of which have recently opened or have confirmed locations.
Stores recently opened include Queens Plaza in Brisbane, Direct Factory Outlet (DFO) at Brisbane airport and Queensgate in Wellington.
Further store openings this year include Penrith Plaza in New South Wales and Bayside and DFO Essendon in Victoria.
An ongoing store refurbishment program is also underway in Australia, with renovations recently completed in Carindale and Indooroopilly in Queensland and Northlands in Victoria.
Morris Wagenheim, managing director of Esprit Australia, said there were plans to renovate an additional six stores this financial year.
"This is part of a strategy to update and upgrade our stores in line with our store in Bondi Junction, Sydney, which reflects the same design and ambience as the new and updated Esprit stores in Europe and the United States," he said.
Esprit has also unveiled plans to upgrade and expand its store network into new European markets including the UK, Italy and Spain.
Approximately 100 new stores are planned throughout Europe, Asia and North America, as well as 1,400 new wholesale points of sale, primarily in Germany, Benelux, France and Scandinavia.
The 110 new stores worldwide will increase the company's total retail floor space by 17 per cent to more than 200,000 sqm.
Several "joint ventures with prominent and well-established businesses in India" and duty free in Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines are also on the cards.
The announcement of the expansion strategy follows the release of the group's end of financial year results.
Group turnover for the year increased by 26 per cent to more than HK$20 billion (AUS$3.4 billion), while net profit rose by 16.2 per cent.
