Indian Perspective
MELBOURNE: The TTNA Annual Conference has announced that it will feature a special presentation on the Indian textile market. Presented by the Managing Director of Business Coordination House Samir Gupta, the conference will explore the boom in India's technical textile trade, its market potential and the prospects for international investment. :Tsubi bombed
MELBOURNE:Australian urbanwear label Tsubi is set to launch another concept store in Melbourne this September. The store, titled "The Bombed Mache", will comprise of a largely cardboard interior with antique furniture, junk pieces, LED displays, model pirate ships and statues of Mary Magdeline littering the space. Located at High Street, Armidale, the boutique will also feature an outdoor courtyard with a fountain and sculpture. Set to debut with the the latest Tsubi range, it will also include international designers Tsumori Chisato, Jeremy Scott and Chronicles of Never and River and Sons jewellery.
:European summer
NATIONAL:Swimwear retailer Palm Beach Couture has announced it will stock more European imports this summer because some local manufacturers "just [aren't] cutting it". The new additions, Huit and She swimwear, will complement the retailers own collection for spring/summer 2006/07. According to proprietor Helen Esdaile, some local manufacturers are guilty of placing emphasis over design rather quality with bad stitch lines, sloppy overlocking and crooked seams.
:Gowings comeback
SYDNEY:Some nine months since slipping into administration, Sydney menswear retailer Gowings is set to be repackaged as an online and mail-order service. Involving a $2.4 million recapitalisation plan, the new concept will be branded under a different label after the rights to use the Gowings name were withdrawn. A distributor of national and international goods since 1868, the retailer slumped into administration in November after G Retail recorded three successive years of losses.
:Smart objectives
SYDNEY:Delegates attending the Education and Research Forum at the Smart 2007 Conference will learn the results from a year long program aimed at implementing key logistics and supply chain initiatives. The objective, set in place at the previous forum in 2005, included addressing skills shortages and ensuring formal recognition and acceptance between levels of learning and accreditations issued at each level. Smart 2007 will take place from June 20 to 21 2007 at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour. For more: smartconference.com.au.
