Online shopping site The Iconic has revealed Australian brands such as Ksubi, Shakuhachi and Ellery as some of its top sellers, three months after launch.
The site, developed by German company Rocket Internet GmbH, stocks a range of men’s and women’s fashion and entered the Australian market in October last year, after months of industry speculation regarding its launch. Despite keeping a tight lid on specific facts and figures, Sarah Gale, head of buying at The Iconic, has revealed the site’s strongest selling product to date has come from local labels which have best represented rising trends.
“We have so far assembled over 150 brands that we believe speak to Australian shoppers and we’re really pleased by how warmly we’ve been received by all of our brands and customers,” she said. “In particular, we’re thrilled to see a lot of the Australian labels doing well. The trend we dubbed ‘Nantucket Summer’ seemed to impact men’s sales significantly this season and this drove a lot of movement in colour-blocked separates, striped tees and clean white shirts.
Brands like Autonomy, Whyred and The Academy Brand embodied this trend and worked well. Men’s graphic tees from brands like Zanerobe, Ksubi, Modern Amusement, Insight and Wrangler also performed strongly. As an extension of the colour trend that has dominated catwalks, we also saw Neon as big news for women this season and by far the hottest designer for this trend was Australian label, Shakuhachi with its range of brights juxtaposed with subtle neutrals.”
Gale also identified fashion footwear brands Lipstick, Tony Bianco and Senso as top sellers in the shoe category and praised Ellery as a stand-out brand. “Bloggers and shoppers alike lusted after our Ellery range, which was one of the widest online. It is clear that Kim has made an indelible mark on the Australian fashion scene.,” she said.
Going forward, Gale said the site will look to build on its existing partnerships with more industry leaders. She also said The Iconic would aim to debut a further 50 top brands from Australia and overseas during the coming a utumn/winter season. Daniela Aroche
