QUEENSLAND: Colin Heaney is to launch a new venture at Swim Fashion Week (SFW) before taking on the bright lights of Las Vegas.

The wearable art designer's first swimwear line is set to debut as part of a new generation parade scheduled to kick off SFW tomorrow, February 28. After successfully broaching into the accessories market with a range of scarves last year, Heaney has aimed his sites on the domestic and international swimwear market.

Colin Heaney general manager Miranda Chance said a selection of styles had already been made available at Coolum's Hyatt hotel earlier this year. Gold Coast boutique Allegra was also set to take on the range soon with more stockists expected as a result of Swim Fashion Week.

"We are hoping to strongly establish ourselves as newcomers in the market," Chance said. "We also want to bring a huge splash of distinctive design and colour."

The brand has just signed with Las Vegas entertainment and casino giant MGM to get its American distribution and PR wheels "spinning". This means the collection will be made available through MGM channels such as the Bellagio Forum Shops, The Bellagio, Caesars Palace and MGM Grand later this year.

In the meantime, the brand's Swim Fashion Week showcase will comprise of three swimwear styles - string bikini, strapless tankini and a halterneck tankini - coordinated back with 12 kaftan designs. The designs are inspired by a smorgasbord of destinations including the Mediterranean, Africa, the Middle East and event the soft details of a "secret English garden".

The collection will retail from $175 to $220.
