Putting on the beats

The worlds of fashion and funk fused in Sydney earlier this month when True Alliance brand Ben Sherman staged its inaugural Big British Sound event. Featuring some of Australia's best up and coming bands the event, staged in the Paddington Town Hall, was attended by a swarm of industry faces including Sherman designer Hayley Smith, Marc Freeman, Alexandra Keating, Nick Brand, Kym Ellery, Ilona Hamer, Emily Mcgregor and Tali Udovich.

A right mare

Sunday best was the order of the day when the autumn racing carnival kicked off in Sydney recently. Staged in the Inglis Newmarket Open Air Cinema, the black tie event saw some of the country's best thoroughbreds take centre stage as the precursor to the carnival's Golden Slipper. Spotted among the throng were designers Robbie Cranfield and Carla Zampatti.

High society

High-end shopping destination The Strand pulled out all the stops when staging its "Strand Society" event earlier this month. Held to celebrate the launch of the centre's new marketing campaign and its new face model Demelza Reveley, the event also saw tenants Akira Isogawa, Dinosaur Design and Farage show parade their latest collections.

Any talk of a recession was firmly put on the backburner when the MLC Centre staged its third annual Fashion Photography Exhibition earlier this month. Offering perspective artisans the chance to bid on more than 20 limited edition prints, including those from renown fashion photographer Jez Smith, all proceeds from the exhibition were donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
