MELBOURNE: Gap has launched its bid to attract Australian consumers, ahead of its first store launch in Melbourne next month.

As exclusively reported in Ragtrader’s May 1 edition, the international brand will be entering the domestic market with a Chadstone Shopping Centre flagship in mid-August. A Sydney store will be launched at the new Westfield city complex in late October.

In preparation, Gap has unveiled an Australian website, www.gapaustralia.com. It invites consumers to sign up to be the first to know when the stores will open. This will give them exclusive access to a pre-opening VIP shopping event. The Melbourne store will also host a launch party for invited guests.

The Melbourne flagship will house the brand’s full collections of adult, children’s and baby apparel. The 1200 square metre space will be clean lined with earthy timber finishes. A key feature will be a two storey glass portal as a central highlight.

Australian company Brand Republic will represent Gap in Australia. Brand Republic is part of Busby Holdings Australia, a company which operates wholesale and retail distribution businesses.

Gap was launched in 1969 and is known for its casual clothing and accessories.
