BRISBANE: The designer behind independent label Gail Sorronda is one step closer to working for the likes of Givenchy, Balenciaga and Roberto Cavalli.

Australian Gail Reid is being scouted for freelance design work by a Paris-based agent who represents major designers including Riccardo Tisci (Givenchy), Nicholas Ghesquiere (Balenciaga) and Roberto Cavalli.

Reid is also in the running to win a solo show at Milan Fashion Week and a standalone spread in Vogue Italia. She is one of seven finalists in the sixth edition of ‘Who Is On Next’, an emerging talent competition organised by Alta Roma and Vogue Italia.

She will present 13 garments from her Murmur collection, first showcased at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week in May, this Saturday in Rome. Regardless of outcome, her work will appear in a finalists feature in the September issue of Vogue Italia.

The Murmur range features feminine embroidery, gathering, ruffles and tulle tutu underskirts mixed with industrial elements such as exposed zippers, oversized buckles and armour-like accessories.

The Gail Sorronda label has sales representation in Italy and is distributed in Antwerp, Holland, Belgium, the UK and Japan. It was launched in 2005.
