MELBOURNE: The director of swimwear brands Funky Trunks and Funkita has reported a determined strategy to boost business in Europe and the UK in 2011.

Owner Duncan McLean, a former competitive swimmer, said he wants to increase the company’s export sales ratio from eight to 20 per cent this year.

The eight-year-old brands, for men, women and children, are currently stocked in France, Germany, Norway, Greece, Czech Republic, Portugal, Poland and the UK. Northern hemisphere sales are operated from a Polish distribution centre.

Across Australia, they are in over 300 swimwear stores and boutiques.

Funky Trunks is the men’s line, offering swimming trunks in vivid colours and patterns from size extra small to extra large. Prices start at $59. Funkita is the women’s offer, with sizes ranging from eight to 22. Women's styles start at $79. Children’s sizes span zero to 14.

The two labels are made with an Italian fabric called C-Infinity, which promises to be structurally durable when used in chlorinated pools. Vivid, flamboyant prints are key to the ranges. Brazilian-style one piece and two piece garments will feature in the summer 2011 offer for women.
