NATIONAL: Pacific Brands has appointed a new non-executive director to its board.

James King will bring 30 years of experience in multi-national corporations to the position, including roles as managing director for Fosters Group (Asia) and six years as president of Kraft Foods (Asia Pacific).

His current directorships include JB Hi-Fi, Navitas and Trust Company while previous directorships included Tattersalls and Babcock & Brown Environmental Investments.

Pacific Brands chairman James MacKenzie said King's experience in the retail and consumer goods sectors would help the company through its current restructure.

The 'Pacific Brands 2010' strategy includes the axing of 200 brands from its portfolio, transforming its supply chain operations and new financial reporting systems.

The publicly listed company made a net loss of $234 million for the 2009 financial year, with $381 million in redundancies and restructuring costs.
