Flight of fancy

"Youse look fantastic"
The new face of Myer, "Aussie Jen" Hawkins, couldn't have put it better as she attempted to boost the confidence of the NRL men of league shyly taking to the catwalk as part of the department store's new season launch in Sydney last week.
Held to introduce the store's new spring/summer 2006/07 lines, the all-dancing, all-sashaying catwalk extravaganza saw Moore Park's Royal Hall of Industries turned into an elaborate theatre as a mix of models, children, league players, dancers and dogs took flight from a fake 747 dominating the football field-sized runway.
On stage for all but about half of the one-hour-plus event, the former Miss Universe and comedian Gary Eck were the first to take the stage, appearing in sexy airhost outfits to offer a running commentary on each range.
Opening honours were given to Sydney-based designer Leona Edmiston, who gave the 500-plus guests a sneak peak of her new childrenswear line - dubbed Little Leona.
Other collections shown during the night included Alex Perry, Cue, Country Road, Camilla and Marc, Cooper Street, Basque, Karen Walker, Speedo, Jets, FashionAssassin, Cheetah, Azzollini, Charlie Brown, Nicola Finetti and Toni Maticevski. But it wasn't just about the Aussie offerings with a good dollop of international flavour also thrown into the mix, courtesy of Stella McCartney, Tommy Hilfiger, Hugo Boss, Kate Sylvester and Karen Walker.
