The Australasian distributor for tennis and sportswear brand Sergio Tacchini has unveiled plans to release two ranges of nostalgia tennis apparel. Sydney marketing and distribution group Richards Marketing Group (RMG) plan to release two vintage tenniswear collections dubbed Authentics and Mania sometime next month.

Sergio Tacchini Australasia brand manager Shan Richards said the Authentics collection - the core product for RMG - would include exact replicas of clothing worn on court during the 1980s by tennis greats John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors.

"The same mills that were used back then to make the original apparel have been purchased and the [Authentics] collection will use exactly the same fabric, cut and pattern that was used for the original clothing."

Richards said the range will be available from September through boutiques in Sydney and Melbourne and the company was also considering opportunities with fashion retail chains including Glue and General Pants Co.

"The jackets in this collection will start at price points of around $240; it's very much a premium product," she said.

The Mania collection - also due for release in September - will feature a modern interpretation of vintage tennis apparel and will also be targeted at the high end of the market.

RMG launched a third collection, dubbed Collaborations, earlier this year with the release of the Burro range - designed by renowned UK designer Burro.

"The Burro range has a very strong UK flavour. It's also very directional and has exclusive distribution through two boutiques in each main city [Sydney and Melbourne]," Richards said.

The Collaborations range would see further partnerships between RMG and designers of renown in the future "to create fashion-forward interpretations of tennis and sports apparel," she added.

RMG opened the first Sergio Tacchini concept store at Sydney's Westfield Bondi Junction shopping centre in early August.

Two more stores - one in Melbourne and an additional outlet in Sydney - will open over the next three years.

Sergio Tacchini's latest ranges hark back to the clothing worn by the tennis greats of the 1980s.
