Distributor says
The distributor behind some of Australia's biggest footwear brands is set to stamp some Alacante flavour into the Aussie marketplace.
Sydney-based World Brands Management was recently awarded the licence to be the exclusive Australasian distributor of Spanish footwear label Julio. The brand adds to WBM's already weighty stable of brands including Diesel, Pony, Gas and Mecca footwear.
Targeted at "trendy" males aged between 17 and 40, the Julio line seeks to broach the divide between high couture and casual masculine fashion and boasts an impressive range of more than 60 different styles in its winter/autumn 2006 collection.
Priced at points of between $280 for shoes and $400 for boots, each piece in the range is crafted from high quality leather and manufactured in Spain's historical cobbler city of Elce.
WBM founder Mel Speers said while the brand will not be seen on shelves for some months, it had already attracted strong interest among buyers with Ooba in Sydney's World Square agreeing to showcase the new line ahead of its official public debut. Speers confirmed several other retail outlets and department stores, including David Jones, had also indicated an interest in stocking the range.
With its unique toe-shapes, sole treatments and heal heights, Julio had the components that set it apart from the classic Italian brands and their Chinese "clones".
Spanish designers seem to have more flair than Italian designers, he said.
"Just as Diesel men's footwear turned the men's casual business on its ear and changed what was acceptable men's footwear forever, so too will Julio change the dress business. [With regards to sales success] we also seem to have hit the price point right where we are at least $50 under the Italian equivalent, representing unequalled value for money."
Speers said each pair of Julio shoes sold in Australia would also come with a personalised belt buckle, which can then be matched to belts crafted from the same design. The belts will retail from $140 each.
