Debut showcase to hit Sydney

A new emerging designer showcase dubbed Debut will be staged concurrently with the Fashion Exposed trade fair at the Sydney Exhibition Centre from March 12 to 14.
Narrowed down from a field of several hundred entrants, 20 up-and-coming fashion designers from Australia and New Zealand have been selected to participate in the fair.
Designer finalists, who had to meet strict design criteria to secure their place in Debut, will present their spring/summer 2006/07 collections across apparel, accessories and advant garde at the showcase.
Apparel sub-categories will include womenswear, menswear, urbanwear and childrenswear.
"The applications we received were exceptional in so many areas," said design curator Uli Hasel.
"Individually, the top 20 [designers] bring innovation, creativity and direction to their collections whilst retaining consumer appeal."
All designers on show will present a maximum of 30 pieces, comprising of between four to six complete looks.
Labels on show will include Slingfling, Hurska, Kahika, Aduki and Marceline.
In addition the finalists will be in the running to win one of three awards for Best New Collection, Best Accessory and Best Single Garment. The awards will be judged by a panel of fashion industry experts in media, retail and design.
The winner of each category will win a 9smq stand at the Melbourne edition of Fashion Exposed, which will be held from September 3 to 5.
