Myer concessions general manager Algy Pereira has been appointed as the company’s national retail director, effectively placing him in charge of 202 Australian Cue and Veronika Maine stores and concessions.
Periera will bring 20 years of retail experience, including five years at Myer, to the table. His appointment comes at an important time for the company.
Executive chairman Rod Levis revealed while seasonal comparative growth is up 3.8 per cent at Myer Cue concessions – and one per cent at its own retail stores – there are certain sites recording “massive” sales and others significant falls.
He declined to reveal under-perfoming sites, but revealed Queensland, New Zealand and ACT as power regions for the brand.
In a letter to staff regarding the appointment, Cue chief executive David Kesby praised Periera’s commitment. It was revealed Periera had already commenced working through a number of briefings and reports before his official commencement date.
“We are confident that he will have a major impact in the running of our retail business and ensuring that both Cue and Veronika Maine move forward with continued success,” he wrote. “This is a very exciting time for us.”
Periera spent 15 years with Woolworths, taking on a number of positions across store operations and buying including department manager, store manager, business manager and senior business manager.
More recently he was general manager for the Myer concessions business and regional merchandise managers.
In addition to ensuring sales and profit growth at Cue, Periera will work across customer service, people development, training and retention, visual merchandising and stock to floor initiatives.
“I am very excited and privileged to be joining the Cue Clothing Co business as the national retail director and am looking forward to working closely with you,” he said in a personal email to staff.
Periera will be relocating to Sydney from Melbourne in mid-January. In the interim, he will be visiting stores in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Recent Cue store openings include Liverpool Westfield and Mackay Myer and Veronika Maine in Cairns, Darwin and Adelaide.
