NATIONAL: An executive with experience at General Pants, Best & Less, Canterbury and Pacific Brands is set to become the new CEO and director of Country Road.
The fashion retailer announced Howard Goldberg will assume the role effective March 7, 2011. Goldberg is currently the managing director of General Pants Group as well as a non-executive director of the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival.
Goldberg's career has also incorporated over 30 years experience in other fashion businesses, most notably as CEO of Canterbury International Australasia as well as terms with Best & Less and Pacific Brands.
Country Road chairman Simon Susman welcomed Goldberg to the business.
“Mr Goldberg has exceptional retail experience and a sound understanding of the Australian market place,” Susman said.
Goldberg's appointment follows the abrupt departure of former Country Road CEO John Cheston on September 15. Cheston has since lodged proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia against Country Road regarding the cessation of his employment.
