NATIONAL: Cotton On has pledged to raise $1,000,000 for Queensland's flood victims, the latest apparel retailer to sign on to help mitigate the impact of the natural disaster.

The Cotton On Foundation will donate 100 per cent of proceeds from the sale of its bottled water and charity bags to Australian flood victims. Proceeds will be collected from its 730 stores worldwide, with the Foundation also moving to collect donations in-store and via its website, www.cottononfoundation.org

The pledge follows the closure of 12 Queensland-based Cotton On Group stores as a result of the flooding. The company revealed 122 of its employees have been affected by the natural disaster, with the Cotton On Foundation to continue “to pay wages to casual staff and assist with larger donations for any property damage employees occur”.

Cotton On Foundation manager Tim Diamond said the $1,000,000 target arose out of a desire to help in a “big” way.

“I'm very proud to announce the Foundation will top up funds raised to ensure we reach our target,” Diamond said.

The Cotton On Foundation's money-raising drive follows similar announcements by local fashion retailers Mimco, Witchery and Jeanswest.

The Cotton On Foundation was established in 2008 and is the charity arm of Melbourne-headquartered retailer The Cotton On Group. Brands in the Group's stable include Cotton On, Cotton On Kids, Cotton On Body, Rubi Shoes and Typo.
