SYDNEY: The Australian arm of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has Camilla Franks in its sights once again.
The animal rights organisation has announced it will stage a protest outside Camilla Franks flagship store in Bondi Beach (NSW) from midday today (October 5). It follows the organisation's threat to stage a similar protest on September 21.
The event is designed to bring attention to Franks' use of fur, with PETA members to sit in cages with signs reading, 'Camilla: animals suffer on fur farms'.
PETA spokesperson Angie Stephenson said the organisation had made “repeated attempts” to explain its point of view on the use of fur to the kaftan designer.
“When you buy or sell fur – even trim – you're supporting one of the cruellest industries on earth,” Stephenson said.
A Camilla spokesperson revealed in September that Franks was disappointed by PETA's campaign, as she uses fur in roughly one per cent of her designs. The representative said Franks was meticulous about ensuring any fur used was sourced from suppliers that do not mistreat animals.
The Camilla label debuted in 2005 and Franks operates three boutiques across Sydney. Local stockists of the label include David Jones, Avanti (QLD), Blondies Boutique (VIC) and Sana (WA), and the label is also stocked internationally.
