FGI Awards
SYDNEY: Fashion Group International (FGI) Sydney has announced publishing executive Deborah Thomas as MC of its 2011 Awards for Excellence ceremony. Thomas has been at the helm of Australia’s top-selling magazine The Australian Women’s Weekly for over a decade, and has edited women’s consumer titles for over 18 years. Two new categories have been announced for the awards this year: corporate leadership and excellence in costume design. The FGI Awards for Excellence will take place on March 18. From shoes to smalls
SYDNEY: Children’s shoe label Chilli Kids is set to expand into the apparel market. Owner Bettina Parker revealed the northern beaches-based business will release children’s pyjamas and underwear for spring/summer 2011/12. The 14 pyjama styles and seven underwear packs will add to Chilli Kids’ existing footwear range for children aged 18 months to 12 years. The brand’s current stockists include department store David Jones and Shoes and Sox. Key staple styles include leather and canvas shoes, sandals and a range of bags.
Technology upgrade
NATIONAL: Distributor of screen printing, heat transfer and textile printing technology, GJS Machinery, has announced the arrival in Australia of a brand new direct-to-garment printer. The Brother GT-782 succeeds the Brother GT-541 and offers additional white ink printing capabilities as well the capacity to print two garments virtually simultaneously. Other features of the GT-782 include a print area of 400mm by 450mm and an expansive colour palette.
