LURED TO LONDON
SYDNEY: Womenswear label Evil Twin is bound for London. The founder of the two-year-old label, Jodie McKenzie, will showcase her 2011 summer designs at London Fashion Week's Exhibition from September 17 to 21. The trade fair will build on the label's current representation in showrooms across Australia, the US, UK, Canada and Japan. General Pants Co. is currently Evil Twin's key stockist in Australia. Product in the label's current winter range includes black acid shred shorts ($79.95), a military parka ($189.95) and leopard mesh bike shorts ($39.95).

 

MARKETING ALLIANCE
SYDNEY: Adventure apparel and footwear company The North Face has welcomed an elite Australian into its marketing fold. The US-headquartered company recently announced its sponsorship of Australian-born, NZ-based professional skier Janina Kuzma. As part of the deal, Kuzma will join other athletes sponsored by The North Face team to work with the company's research, design and development teams on innovative designs, and wear The North Face designs during competition. The North Face is managed in Australia by True Alliance and operates three stores in Sydney and Melbourne.

DESIGNERS GET GIRLY
SYDNEY: Leading fashion designers at The Strand Arcade – including Alex Perry, Gail Elliot and Fleur Wood – are weighing in on the body image debate. The designers will host a ‘Girl Studio’ event at the shopping complex on September 9, with live catwalk shows and interactive fashion and beauty hubs. Developed by Cuneo Productions, Girl Studio is aimed at positive self-image and confidence building for teenage girls. In the lead up to the event, a selection of young women will take part in a mentor program with the three designers, spending a week behind the scenes learning about their businesses.

POPPING UP
BRISBANE: Dual fashion design and business degree students at the Queensland University of Technology have launched a pop-up fashion store in the Wintergarden at Queen Street Mall. Launched on August 19, The Fleet Store will sell garments until the end of October. It features the work of current QUT students, as well as up-and-coming designers at QUT Creative Enterprise Australia,
a creative industries incubator.
