Comfort gear hatches

NATIONAL: EGG Maternity has launched a capsule collection of lounge and comfort wear for expectant mothers, due to hit stores this month. Called Capsule by EGG, the range offers maternity basics including relaxed trousers, a straight leg jean with stretch side panels, simple dresses and cotton knit pieces. Colours include grey marl, navy and raspberry red. Prices range from $40 to $150. The New Zealand label has six stores and a number of stockists across Australia.

Henleys expands

MELBOURNE: UK brand Henleys is growing its Australian presence with the launch of a fourth store at Chadstone Shopping Centre in Melbourne. The new store will stock the streetwear company’s winter 2010 collection including the Project Deluxe range featuring biker jackets, sporty t-shirts, motif hoodies and knitted jumpers. Henleys was established in 1996 and first launched Australian retail operations in February 2009. It has a second store in Melbourne, two in Sydney and wholesale clients including Glue, Urban Equipment and Myer.

Good luck for evil

SYDNEY: Emerging Australian streetwear label Evil Twin has been picked up by retailer Urban Outfitters UK, with the order to hit northern hemisphere stores in September. UK online retailer asos.com has also taken it on board. Designed by Jodie McKenzie, the second drop winter range has 1980s, rockstar and punk inspiration at its core. The Sydney-based brand is stocked in all General Pants stores in Australia and a number of independents. Pitched at a youth market, its local prices range from $39 to $200.

Perth fashion boost

PERTH: The West Australian state government has awarded $720,000 in funding to the Perth Fashion Festival. The financial injection has come via the Regional Events Scheme and the Arts and Cultural Events Scheme and will be delivered in annual installments over the next three years. Around 25 applicants pitched for grants under each scheme, with the fashion festival one of 10 recipients. The festival will run from September 9 to 15 and will feature around 50 events, including fashion parades for industry, for the public, fashion workshops and a model search.
