MELBOURNE: Victims of the recent racial attacks on Indian students will be among those walking the catwalk in a fashion show planned in Melbourne later this month.

Celebrated Indian fashion choreographer Kaushik Ghosh has organised the show in protest against the racially-motivated attacks which have seen fights break out in both Sydney and Melbourne in recent weeks.

Ghosh told The Times of India that he was set to go to Melbourne for a workshop but had been compelled to organise the show after watching a fellow Indian refuse a honorary doctorate from an Australian university in protest against the attacks.

Ghosh said he had been in touch with the Federation of Indian Students of Australia to help drive awareness of the event.

"Through this show we want to tell Aussies that they should not think of us as 'curry people'. We’ve learnt to respect others and that's why we don't believe in retaliation," he told the newspaper.

The show is scheduled for later this month.
