Cult unisex label Antipodium has vowed to amend its autumn/winter industry lookbook, following concerns over its decision to run a naked, underage child as part of the campaign.
The Antipodium Goodbye Horses autumn/winter 2011 lookbook features 24 coordinated looks for men and women. The promotion also includes a moodboard reflecting key inspirations for the range, featuring iconic advertising campaigns from the 1970s and ‘80s.
As part of this moodboard, the brand published a controversial photograph of a naked, heavily made-up 10-year old child. When contacted by Ragtrader, a representative of the brand confirmed it was an archival image of actress Brooke Shields taken by photographer Richard Prince.
The same photograph was yanked from an exhibition at London’s Tate Modern by police in 2009, following protests from child exploitation groups.
Antipodium’s decision to publish the photograph comes over two years after fashion retailers came under fire in a Senate inquiry into the sexualisation of children in Australia.
“We’ve covered up the image so not to cause any offence and distributed the revised lookbook,” a spokesperson confirmed to Ragtrader at the time of press.
