SYDNEY: Akira Isogawa has teamed up with dance apparel brand Bloch to create a limited edition lifestyle shoe collection.

The Sydney-based, Japanese-born designer has crafted a selection of ballet flats, lace up jazz shoes and Japanese worker boots. Each style is inspired by dance footwear and the Far East.

Called Bloch by Akira, the collection features embossed leather, snakeskin and suede. Kimono inspired prints and hand beaded patterns appear on the designs.

Prices for the womenswear offer range from $275 for ballet flats to $495 for boots. Main colours include magenta, camel, red and black.

A feature shoebox has also been designed to complement the designs.

The shoes will be offered exclusively in three David Jones locations - in Melbourne, Sydney and Bondi Junction in Sydney. They will appear in the international designer division. At this stage, it is a one-time collaboration.

It is not the first time Isogawa has worked on a dance related project. In recent years he has created a series of costumes for Sydney Dance Company performances.

Bloch was established in Sydney in 1932 to provide pointe shoes for ballet dancers. It now offers a full range of dance shoes and apparel and has a presence in 8000 stores worldwide.
