AG Clothing still an indie
Designer fashion retailer Arthur Galan has denied speculation the company is fielding a potential takeover bid.
The Melbourne-headquartered business contacted Ragtrader to address claims made on a social media platform concerning its ownership structure.
Designer Arthur Galan founded the brand in 1998, along with wife and business partner Mimi Galan, and maintains it is 100 per cent privately owned and operated.
Mimi Galan said while plans are underway to expand its network of 13 men’s, women’s and unisex stores nationally, this would not be pioneered under new ownership.
“We’ve had a few calls come through about this [but] we continue to be one of the few businesses around who are entirely independent,” she said. “We are trading well and we are looking to expand the business, but we will do this as an independent company.”
Galan said this was not the first time speculation had surfaced over a potential takeover, pointing to a recent claim that national retailer Politix had “bought our business, which was also not true”.
In addition to operating a national retail chain, Arthur Galan is also available through department store David Jones and has a corporate uniform division catering to restaurants and boutique hotels.
