Sportswear giant Adidas is the latest brand to benefit from lodging notices with customs services.
Adidas successfully pushed for 1800 units of counterfeit product to be destroyed at a recent hearing in the High Court of New Zealand’s Auckland Registry. The units were first seized by the country’s customs service in March 2009, with the same importers agreeing to forfeit a similar shipment of counterfeit product just two months later.
The court ordered the first shipment to be destroyed after the importers failed to forfeit the goods or file and serve a statement of defence.
As reported in the last edition of Ragtrader, streetwear chain G-Star Raw has seen a sizeable reduction in countefeit imports since first lodging a notice of objection with the Australian Customs Service in 2007.
Notices ensure customs staff monitor products bearing a brand’s trademark when imported into the country.
