SYDNEY: Fashion print suppliers could soon be rushing to harness photographic imagery after design leader Collette Dinnigan teamed with Sony to create an innovative gown.

The Sony Midnight Magnolia gown - which will form a part of Dinnigan’s
spring/summer 09 collection - features a magnolia image taken by
photographic artist Gary Heery, using electronics giant Sony's new _900 (Alpha) digital SLR camera.

The one-off couture gown, which was recently showcased on the runway as part of the designer's 'Summer Night' show in Paris, is now available for purchase exclusively through Collette Dinnigan outlets.

"Sony Midnight Magnolia was created through a unique digital fabric printing procedure," Dinnigan confirmed. "Gary Heery’s photographic work using the _900 to shoot the magnolia image was simply superb. The result was a magnificently expressive visual feast. This, combined with the flow of silk chiffon through the oversized magnolia image, created a thoroughly feminine gown and perfect addition to my Spring/Summer 09 collection."

Toby Barbour, head of strategy and brand development at Sony Australia, described the collaboration as "an expression of Sony’s ability to bring stylish design, technical innovation and creativity together to create something truly out of the ordinary."

"What began as a one-off couture design has grown into something truly special that anyone can own. A photographic creation like no other, encompassing the world of art, fashion and technology, this gown is made possible through some of Australia's most creative minds and through the technical capabilities of the _900 digital SLR camera."
