SYDNEY: Two local designers who famously turned down an internship with couture powerhouse Galliano are set to venture into the mainstream retail market.
Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales, founders of Sydney-headquartered womenswear label Romance Was Born, have been announced as the next designer collaborators for High Street retailer Sportsgirl.
The pair have produced a 12 piece capsule collection dubbed 'Clowning Around' which includes a range of ready-to-wear garments and accessories priced from $90 to $270.
The collection has been manufactured in Australia and features tie-die fabrications, voluminous skirts and dresses, ruffles, pomp poms, fringing and tassels. Highlights are the Silk Flamingo Bag, Ring Master Anorak, Clown Knickerbocks, Circus Frill Dress and Big-Top Tee.
Romance Was Born for Sportsgirl will be available through sportsgirl.com.au and select national stores from March 2009.
The announcement follows a busy year for Romance Was Born, which was a finalist in the inaugural design competition Chambord Shine Awards last month and saw Plunkett scoop the fashion category of the Yen Young Women of The Year Awards.
Stockists for Romance Was Born include Ksubi, Incu, Alice Euphemia, Parlour X and The Corner Shop.
