The TD001 by Twodeck Brand has launched in Australia.

The shoe is inspired by the standard issue sandal for the British Royal Navy 30 years ago.

For every pair sold, five books will be issued to the not-for-profit Room to Read Australia, focused on girls' education and children's literacy in Asia and Africa.

Twodeck Brand began 1 July this year and has the ambitious goal of one million pairs of sandals sold and five million books delivered to Room to Read Australia in the next seven years.

The sandals are available in black and natural leather for men, and blue, black, green, red, yellow and natural leather for women.

Twodeck Brand founder Mike Todd said it is a gamechanger.

“I joined the British Royal Navy nearly 30 years ago and I still have the sandals I wore every day working on the submarines.

"We used the Royal Navy design to produce a hard wearing sandal perfect for the Australian summer ideal whether you are going to work, on a Sunday morning stroll with a coffee or catching up with friends.

“The sandal is available on our website and it’s great to see the feedback we are getting already. Our customers love comfort, love style and want a sandal that will last forever, and the TD001 delivers."

The TD001 retails at $149.95, with an aim to ensure workers are paid ethically and legally in their own country.

Todd has more than 20 years in the shoe industry running brand agency, Twodeck Agency, a Sydney based sales agency that launches and manages international distribution for lifestyle footwear brands across the Asia Pacific.

As part of the launch of TD001, he learned how to make the shoes himself in a boutique, eclectic shoe factory, on Paramatta Road called School of Footwear.

The sandals are made in Portugal and shipped to Australia. Following the launch in Australia, the sandals will be launched in the UK and the USA for their 2018 summer.
