Which Australian concept store could soon be crowned the best in the world?

Four Australian retail businesses have been named as finalists in the The World Retail Congress 2014 World Retail Awards.

These include Appliances Online, Catch of The Day and Winning Appliances.

However, it is the Clearly flagship store in George Street, Sydney, that could be crowned best 'Store Design under 12000sqm'.

The global online optical retailer launched its first ever physical store in Australia, on February 21.

Consumers visiting the store are able to try on frames and place orders online inside the store, with prescription eyewear shipped to them in a matter of days.

The store is dominated by a giant mirror ball: a piece of visual merchandising that attracts customers into the store and also showcases the glasses and sunglasses.

The atmosphere of the store also changes depending on the time of day.

During daylight hours, the store has a custom-designed scent, subtle lighting to enhance the central glitter ball fixture and a specially composed zen-like soundtrack.

At night, the store transforms into a light and sound installation, playing high-energy dance music with an animated light installation bouncing coloured lights off the mirror fixture as it spins on a rotating platform.
