Online retailer eBay is expecting a record breaking run into Christmas, with December 12 set to be the company's highest selling day.

The company projects 11 gifts per will sell per second on desktops (from 8pm to 9pm) and on mobile devices (from 9pm to 10pm).

eBay said the site will receive more than 2.7 million visits, with 1.7 million coming through mobile devices.

There will be 113 million live listings, 64% more than last year.

eBay senior director marketing and retail innovation Steve Brennen has said the high shopping period is a full week later than last year, with the week commencing on December 5 and culminating on December 12.

“This appears to be a real tipping point in the way Australian’s shop in the lead up to Christmas.”

The site has also revealed the most active postcodes throughout the country such as Werribee and Truganina in Victoria, Liverpool and Campbelltown in NSW and Mackay and Toowoomba in Queensland.
